PACIFIC OCEAN (CBSDFW.COM) - The world’s largest volcano now bears the name of Texas A&M. A team of researchers from A&M and the University of Houston and oceanographer William Sager discovered the volcano spanning an area of around 120,000 square miles at a location about 1,000 miles southeast of Japan.

It covers about as much ground as New Mexico. The volcano was named “Tamu Massif,” which is a combination of an abbreviation for A&M and the French word for massive.
The 145 million year old volcano isn’t active anymore. It sits at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean about 1,000 miles east of Japan.
